Site work has begun for a national retailer that's coming to Amory.

Sherwin-Williams, a paint and home decorating store, plans to locate in a new 5,000-square-foot building on Hwy. 278 East.

According to city planner Russell Butler, the building permit for the new store calls for a $368,000 store being constructed by Hills Construction LLC of Water Valley.

City officials have been working with this company and its real estate agent for several months.

Mayor Howard Boozer said it's an open market and Sherwin-Williams chose to come here because they feel the market will support it.

Having the new store will add to the city's tax base.

"It's positive growth," Boozer said. "It makes us all feel good that a national company that's listed on the Dow Jones is choosing to come to Amory. They are a very large company."

"It shows optimism in our economy for them to choose to come here," Boozer said.
