ABERDEEN – Aberdeen scored the game’s first 12 points, but Itawamba scored the final 13, all in the second quarter of a 13-12 scrimmage win against the Bulldogs.
Keon McGaughy’s 9 yard touchdown run with 4:58 to play pulled Itawamba within 12-7 and quarterback Malkhail Miller’s 1 yard run with 38.5 seconds left put the Indians ahead for good in the two-quarter contest
“Any way you look at it, it was a scrimmage,” IAHS coach Jaime Mitchell said. “I thought we really hung our head after the opening kickoff. We’re a way too experienced football team to let that happen.”
The opening kick saw Aberdeen senior back Jamerson Love take it 70 yards for a 6-0 Aberdeen lead.
Itawamba failed to scored in the opening quarter, its last drive stalling on the Aberdeen 14 as time expired.
“We didn’t do some things very well, but I like our senior group and I think we’ve got a chance to be pretty good once we have the pieces in place,” Mitchell said.
Aberdeen also got a 7 yard touchdown run from Aaron Andrews.
“Defensively we looked real good starting off,” said Aberdeen coach Chris Duncan. “I think we got tired toward the end. We saw a lot of promising things. Itawamba’s got a real good ballclub and I’m pleased overall with the effort we had tonight.”
